Drummin Woods walk is situated just outside Foxford, County Mayo, when you get to the village you take the road down to the train station and continue driving; you’ll see the walk on one side and parking by the lake on the other side; Click for Map
The walk is 4 km long and is a stone path. For children the walk is suitable for school age as there is some verges that fall into streams and some puddles that are very deep. The paths are suitable for a buggy geared towards rough terrain and children could bring their bikes, scooters would be difficult on the paths.
On a summer day a walk and then chill out by the lake with a picnic is a must. I can’t say the water is safe to swim in but we always go swimming there and my two are always fine. You swim at your own discretion.
We loved this walk and walked for an hour and half as we had different levels of fitness and ages. We walked Drummin Woods, over the Christmas period and if you go far enough into the woods you’ll find decorated tress, which my two children loved. The landscape is untouched and rugged the tress are high and wild and you feel like your walking in an undiscovered land, its beautiful.
